Empowering Communities: Nehemiah Center's Expansion with Honda Grant Support

Communities thrive when they have access to resources that foster growth, education, and well-being. The Nehemiah Center has long been a beacon of hope and support in its neighborhood, offering programs that uplift individuals and families. Recently, the center took a significant step forward thanks to a generous grant from Honda. This funding has allowed the Nehemiah Center to expand its reach and deepen its impact, creating new opportunities for community members.

• The Nehemiah Center today announced a $25,000 contribution from Honda to support and expand their STEM/Robotics Career Exploration summer camp and afterschool program. This new initiative is to provide AI Literacy and an Esports Club (More Than Just Gaming) component. This contribution will help advance the organization’s work to further educate and empower the community in the proper use of AI, its pros and cons, game development and design. These tools will readily prepare a more future-ready workforce by hosting FREE workshops explaining AI literacy and public understanding in under-represented communities in Guilford County. They will also introduce academic game design and implement an Esports League. Priority is to provide community-based out of school experience for youth and teens.

• With this approach, the Nehemiah Center is expanding access and delivery to serve populations traditionally left out of digital innovation. This initiative will introduce and readily prepare the younger generation for the future-tech jobs that will build economic security. Their efforts will enhance and change the overall financial status and economic fabric for many households. Those who have attained expertise in AI and/or game development will replace individuals who do not have this skill set. The Nehemiah Center will be offering community revitalization through this opportunity to boost the economy in Guilford County.

  
  

• Honda is committed to empowering young people by prioritizing education and career readiness, fostering the creativity and innovation needed to solve tomorrow’s challenges. Through its Education Pillar, Honda supports programs that inspire the next generation and create opportunities for young people to succeed. The Nehemiah Center aligns with this.

  
  

• For the past 18 years, the Nehemiah Center has been creating impact for residents in Greensboro. Due to their exponential growth this year, they have been blessed to partner with Grace Community Church to provide their STEM & Robotic Career Exploration Camp to over 100 campers. This summer, their FRC team, the GEODEBOTS, will conduct their first FLL Challenge Camp. Teens 16 & up will also engage in drone training leading to their FAA Part 107 pilot’s license in the fall. And through county funding from their local JCPC, some court-involved teens will receive IT or FAA training and certifications upon their release. This summer, adults can acquire their Google IT Specialist Certification.

• The Nehemiah Center has relocated, and their corporate headquarters is now located in Downtown Greensboro at Foundation Place. On Sat. June 13th from 10a-2p, join them for their ‘EVERYTHING MUST GROW’ Community Yard Sale at 311 Creek Ridge Rd. (off Randleman Rd.) All proceeds will support their various programs and initiatives.
